Youth Jobs Strategy Update

13 Dec 2024

The Youth Jobs Strategy was released in September and work is well underway on delivering on the vision young people asked for, which is to ensure all young Tasmanians feel empowered and are supported to access meaningful education, training, or employment opportunities.

We’re excited with the progress that we have already made, with a number of initiatives underway.

Highlights in the few months since the release include:

  • The $1.2 million investment in Homebase, Launceston City Mission, and Youth, Family and Community Connections to support to help young people facing complex barriers to re-engage with education, training or work.
  • The SVA Employer Innovation Lab working with major employers, including INCAT, Federal Group, RACT, Adventure Patch, Woolworths and Government agencies, over a 12-month period to support youth career pathways and
  • Work is well advanced on extending the successful Youth Career Facilitator Pilot in the North West into the North to support schools, students, industry and vocational service providers to connect.

We are also fortunate to have the support of Professor Shelley Mallet, through a Paul Ramsey Foundation Fellowship anchored at the University of Tasmania, to help develop leadership capability to steward and sustain the strategy’s ambition for improved youth participation in education, training and work.

A Ministerial Taskforce to drive and lead the Youth Jobs Strategy effort across government, industry, community, education and training providers, with young people, is being established and will be launched in the new year.
